Last Rehearsal of 2010

Had a good practice last night. Ran through the songs ready for the gigs on 7th (Half Moon) and 29th (St Pauls, Bretnford) January 2011. We've pretty much decided on a new opener: 'Push Up' and a new show closer: 'Caterham Blues'. Excited about changing it up a bit.

We had an excellent sound in the room. Vocals louder than normal with a nice bit of delay on them. Nice instrument mix. A real pleasure to play our songs.

We tidied up 'Seven Foot Drop' and 'The New Romance' which - if you're lucky - you'll hear at the shows in the New Year.

In other news, the lyrics for 'Push Up' were featured in a great new book full of stories and recollections about Brentford FC: http://www.griffinpark.org/forums/showthread.php?t=86813

Jetsonics Television

Ad and I practiced last night. Ran through "Seven Foot Drop" again and played it the same 3 times in a row. That arrangement is all set now. Just waiting for Dave to pick it up and add some magic. We also reworked "Anne-Marie" and came up with a chorus. A good chorus too. We also made 3 videos! Ad doing a reveal of his new Retrovibe RV4 bass. Me doing a 'how to play' one of our songs and Ad doing a 'how to play' too. Just need to edit the boring stuff out and get them uploaded. Look out for them over the next week. You'll like them. Busy times.

Stoodents cause chaos for Jetsonics rehearsals

Pesky students caused traffic jams in town yesterday meaning Dave was stranded in town and couldn't make it in time. Ad and I decided to turn up anyway. He had some great lyrics and I had an idea for some chords. It's how all the best songs start.

We made our latest and greatest. It's called Seven Foot Drop. It's so new that Dave hasn't even heard it yet! We demo'd it on Ad's Zoom recorder and hopefully Dave will get to hear that before next practice. It has the spikiness of 'London's Calling' mixed with the wordsmithery of '25 minutes to go' http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/25_Minutes_to_Go

It's yet another new song that we'll be debuting at the big New Year shows in Putney and Brentford.

Can't wait.

Artwork

We are pulling together the artwork for the 2011 shows. We need posters, print flyers and web flyers. Ad has some good ideas and we've pretty much decided on a cool pop art them for the St Paul's show and an old school black and white photo for the Half Moon stuff.

Our usual rehearsal space is not available this week so were switching for a one off to a different venue to keep our hand in and keep the new material coming.

I've switched back to using the Alden Bluesline http://muse-inc.com/eng/bbs/board.php?bo_table=e21 and it's a great guitar. Really thick sound. Just gotta get used to not bashing the pick up switch. Always seems to get in the way when you are used to playing a Tele vs this Les Paul shape.

Dave has invested in some new hard drum cases. Surely that makes them even heavier?? Booo.

Ad is still waiting on his new bass... http://www.probass.co.uk/Home.html

New material

With some breathing space between gigs we decided to work on some new songs last night. Ad had some lyrics for 'The Start' and 'Anne Marie'. The Start is coming along well. It's a song of many parts from chanting to freak out guitar solos. It will be epic. We worked hard on harmonies, they really add a new dimension to the sound. Ad is the new Aled Jones.

Anne Marie didn't end up where it started (as a heavy waltz). By the time we'd finished it wasn't Anne-Marie any more it was an entirely new song with no lyrics (yet) a TV Spy themed intro and other bits that sound heavier than anything we've done before. It's all new. It's all good. It's all Jetsonics. You'd expect nothing less.

The Jetsonics Inn on the Green was a good show

Had good fun on Friday night. Thanks to The Members for having us. Thanks to all the Jetsonics supporters who came to see us and all The Members fans who came early and watched us too.

Technical hiccup with a squealing microphone aside it was a good show. We played Caterham Blues which went down well. We dropped Satisifed to keep the set to around 45 minutes. There is a video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tb0BQDyOhJE

Half Moon...you rock and you know you do

A cracking show at the Half Moon. Thanks for showing up those that did. We had a good time didn't we! Thanks also to 100 Ways - the support band. Great sound. Thanks to Anthony the sound man, we've not worked with him before but he was super quick with the osund check and very professional.

We're playing next at The Inn on the Green, Notting Hill. October 15th. Come and see us then.

Back once again....renegade master

Last night www.thejetsonics.com made its official move across the interwebz. I can't say it was seamless, 'cause if you'd woken in the middle of last night for a bowl of cornflakes and thought 'oooh it's 3 in the morning, I think I'll look at The Jetsonics website', then you wouldn't have found anything there. But you will do now. If you see anything broken - please tell us. If you've not been there before, then you should. It's pretty cool www.thejetsonics.com.

We're adding a load of new shows at the moment. Check the shows section on the official site for details and look out for Facebook updates. See you there.

Thursday 16 September 2010

Keep calm and carry on. You may experience some interruption to your normal service.

www.thejetsonics.com is moving hosts on the interweb, so for the next week it may be up and down a bit. Keep your fingers crossed and see you on the other side. Sam.

Another new song

More like a social than a full-on practice last night. Couple of old songs then a cup of tea. Then we set about putting Ad's new words to music. Within half an hour we had a brilliant new song. It's a bit of Mott the Hoople meets Slade, but without the funny haircuts. We'll play it for you at the next gig.

Sunday 5 September 2010

Coach and Horses

Thanks for showing out at the Coach and Horses. Turned into a great show. Dropped drumstick. Broken string. Broken Muff. Still was great fun.

Wednesday 1 September 2010

Ready for the Coach and Horses

Practiced last night and ran through our 16 song set. Sounds good. We're ready for the 4th September (this Saturday) at The Coach and Horses, Isleworth. TC is on PA duty - though we still don't know if that's the pub's PA or TC's own. There'll be a support band from 9pm playing covers then we'll be on after 10pm through until midnight. All in the name of a good cause.

Tuesday 24 August 2010

Warming up for the Coach and Horses

Practiced last night. Ran through the set and re-introducied some older songs that we haven't played for a while. We'll be doing a double set at the Coach and Horses on the 4th September in support of local charities and the Brentford Festival so we needed more of our older material...and more stamina! Good to be playing again after a few weeks off. Sam.

Luca...check it out!

Equipment malfunction

The funk tried to kill my amp. Dave was caught in traffic so Ad and I were noodling with effects (WARNING: DANGER AHEAD) and pretending to be Parliament (WARNING). I didn't heed the warning signs and by the time I tried to play some guitar-based rock music with normal sounds my amp had gone all weird and was switching sounds of its own accord. Stoopid funk...thinks it's so smart. I might also blame the fact that my MojoScarf went in the washing machine for the first time. Removing 3 years of Mojo in the progress. Or maybe it's now just a sweeter smelling MojoScarf. Sam

No lasers...no problem

I've got to say that The Grey Horse is a great venue. It doesn't seem like it should be a great venue. The lighting is not great. There are no follow spots...no lasers...no smoke machines. There are some seats that make it look at times like you might be at a school play. There is just a mic in the kick drum and mics on the vocals. It shouldn't be this good. But you know what...the place is magic. We've played there twice now and each time something happens between us and the audience and together we manage to rip the roof off. It starts with apprehension and a ripple of excitement and by the end we are all dripping with the thrill of the show. A proper Saturday-night-forget-all-your-troubles rock show. Maybe it's just my imagination cause I was delirious after gulping down honey (don't ask) and yelping through a fast and furious hour long set (with a genuine encore!). I can't say it'll happen every time we play. We just hope it does.

Tell your friends. Half Moon - 24th July. See you on stage.

Sam

p.s. You see we are 112 facebook fans strong now! Pretty good!

Ahead of our gig this Saturday 19th June at The Grey Horse in Kingston, we're please to share with you a brand new song. The Jetsonics - The Grey Horse - 19th June

Don't forget - you're coming to The Grey Horse in Kingston next Saturday! That's 19th June. The Jetsonics with The Schizophonics in support. Excellent.

If you get there about 8 o'clock you'll have time to get a drink in before the first band comes on.

See you there.

Wednesday 2 June 2010

Recording? Oh yes we did that.

Ad's away so Dave and I went in the studio last night to overdub vocals and shaker and tambourine. Nothing fancy. No synths, Ad! Sorry. Results, I think, sounded good. Certainly the vocal takes were better than at the original session. By the time Mixmaster Steve gets his work done we will be sounding great I'm sure. We finished up Amazing, Satisified and Somewhere Else. Hopefully we'll be playing you something from the sessions within the next couple of weeks.

Tuesday 25 May 2010

OVRDUBZ

That's right. Back in the studio next week for some overdubs. We have an evening to do everything we wished we'd left time for at the last session. Percussion, backing vocals, a bit of additional guitar maybe. The things that'll give the new songs that bit of zing that we know you'll like.

Hello Ad! How is USandA?

Friday 14 May 2010

Press the RECORD button and retire to a safe distance

The Jetsonics are in the studio tomorrow for a full day of recording. Big fancy place with a fancy producer and high expectations on our part. We're moving in for the day and drinking lots of tea and bringing lots of biscuits. If you ever wished us well, wish us well for tomorrow.

Don't forget the big Jetsonics dates for your diary are 19th June, gig at the Grey Horse, Kingston. 24th July, gig at the Half Moon, Putney.

Photos with Slatts in Brentford

When Paul Slattery is not taking photos of U2 or Oasis, he's taking photos of The Jetsonics. We had a great time last night at low tide on the Thames. Ad nearly lost his blue suede shoes as he sunk up to his ankles and we almost had to leave him there. I found myself walking like a loon in an attempt to stand up straight on the slippery and uneven river bed, while Dave sure-footed his way around making things look easy. The end results were excellent. Balancing flash against the dying evening light, Slatts took some great shots of us that we'll post later this week.

Tuesday 27 April 2010

Recording scheduled

We've set up some recording for next month. We'll spend a day in the studio and we're aiming to record four new songs. We have about six new ones we could do, so it's a question of deciding which we do first. Pretty exciting as we'll be recording in a new studio with a new producer. We're all looking forward to it.

Honey Don't!

I really want one of these. I got a flyer through from GAK in Brighton yesterday who announced this Epiphone Wildkat in a ridiculous orange colour. I needs it. I wants it. I gotsta, gotsta have it! I think it would look very cool at the next Jetsonics' gig. I could even quiff my hair.

Tuesday 20 April 2010

You can help us find Fan #100

We need your help to get more then 100 fans on our Facebook page: www.facebook.com/thejetsonics.

Push Up

We wrote another new song last night. It's called 'Push Up'. Excellent. All started of with a good drum beat from Dave, some lyrics from Ad then we put those lyrics to some chords and we had a song. A great song. Really good sing-along chorus. You'll like it. You'll hear it at The Grey Horse in Kingston on 19th June.

Monday 19 April 2010

Brentford, let me hear you scream!

Thanks, Slatts. We had a great time playing a birthday gig on Saturday night. Thanks to everyone there who eschewed the summer's evening sun, warm weather and barbecue to bring themselves indoors and show some appreciation for a band they'd never heard of. The new song, Satisifed, went well. Good fun to play. The crowd loved the finale of Lucky Lost where we do a proper rock and roll ending. Thrashing and whacking away. Excellent. Looking forward to the big shows in Kingston (June 19th) and Putney (July 24th).

Thursday 8 April 2010

Two new songs and a new rehearsal room

Last night we had good fun at a new rehearsal space. Lovely big room with good sound. Nice PA. Nice tea. Only downside it's over on an island in the middle of the Thames! So it's a bit of an assault course getting the gear over there. We worked on two new songs: Satisifed and Caterham Blues/Saturday Night (undecided at the moment). They are both really good. Or at least they will be once we get used to playing them. Satisified has some octave disco bass and straight-up rock guitar and drums. Caterham Blues/Saturday Night is a great rocker with some nifty bits and pieces to spice it up. Sounds like a good show closer.

Tuesday 6 April 2010

Playing away

This week we're not rehearsing at Airplay but down the road at Panic Button Studios. We've been at Airplay for all this time, but were on the cancellation list for an extra rehearsal so decdied to try a new place for a one off. We'll tell you how it goes. It's on an island in the middle of the Thames. Over the bridge, right at the ducks.

Tuesday 30 March 2010

Tower of Terror

Ad's amp has arrived. But no cabs yet. It's like an engine with no car! Somebody in a workship somewhere is making them and they should be delivered soon. But not soon enough! Ad - for those of use who are into this gear stuff - tell us what you ordered again...

Band field trip

The Jetsonics had a band outing last night. Went to the Albert Hall to see The Specials. The Royal Albert Hall is a spectacular venue. Small enough to feel cosy, big enough to feel like an event. Excellent lighting and excellent sound. The Specials were exciting and fun and tight and after thirty years they still played Gangsters/Ghost Town/Too Much Too Young like they were playing them for the first time. Rude boy!

Thursday 18 March 2010

What's what this week

Ad's amp was playing up. It was flapping a bit. Then not. Then again. All a bit odd. Good news is - a replacement is on its way. Next week sees the arrival of an amp the size of a small tower block. The kind of amp that makes your trousers flap and chest thump. Nice.

Gig tomorrow, a private party. We're doing a compact set and playing by special request. Should be good.

I just had a Belgian Bun. Which was nice.

Friday 5 March 2010

The Jetsonics Facebook page

Not sure why we didn't do this before. It's now much easier to find The Jetsonics official band page on Facebook my going to http://www.facebook.com/TheJetsonics

In other news, Ad got a new pedal for his ever-expanding pedal board. This one is a Digitech Bass Synth Wah. Bass Synth Wha!?!? Indeed. I'm sure it will find a perfect nook for a hook in one of the new songs. If we now turn into Level 42, I'll let you know :-)

Friday 19 February 2010

Live tonight at The Gunnersbury in Chiswick

The Jetsonics will be opening tonight at The Gunnersbury in Chiswick. Followed by Bang2Rights who will be providing quality entertainment for the rest of the evening.

Are you ready, Dave? Ad? Sam? Alright fellas. Let's go!

Monday 8 February 2010

The Flyers Have Landed

We have the flyers for the upcoming gigs in hand. They look pretty cool. Hopefully get the poster size ones up in the venues and the A5 ones to the lucky few who will no doubt get them signed and sell them on eBay for huge sums. Probably.

Wednesday 3 February 2010

Custom Skin

Dave will be pleased. Artwork for the new Jetsonics drum head from customskins.co.uk has been approved. Next for monogrammed shirts and matching suits.

Tuesday 26 January 2010

Dave's new kit

I tell you! It's tasty. It has bigger rack toms. Bigger floor tom. It's a tasty ruby red wine colour over a nice grained wood. Looks fantastic. Sounds big. We had to turn up the guitars to match him and luckily there was a loud PA for the vocals in the room.

We also had guests last night. It's nice to have guests sometimes. It takes us to a place half way between practice and performance and we give that little bit more than we would if we were playing for ourselves. One of the guests took some photos that we hope to see soon. Great that he brought his camera - seeing as he is a top rock photog who has shot Oasis, The Smiths and U2 to name three. Now he can happily tick The Jetsonics off his hit list. Everyone's happy :-)

Dub rock song sounds better every time and even sweeter with a big dose of reverb in the breakdown and DAVE'S MEGADRUMS (tm) in the intro.

Friday 22 January 2010

3rd March at The Grey Horse in Kingston

Looking forward to the Grey Horse on 3rd March. Dave's also looking forward to putting his new drum kit together. We'll hopefully see that this coming Monday. Ad has a new Big Bass Muff pedal which sounds incredibly gruff and suits a couple of the songs well. Last week we practiced the new Dub Rock track we have been working on, we're pretty sure it's all there now. We'll play it on the 3rd. Sounds excellent. My bid to re-write Kenny's 'The Bump' for the 21st century was vetoed by the rest of the band! I'm going to re-string my Tele, probably for the first time since 2008.

This bulletin was brought to you by Dm. The saddest of all keys.

Friday 15 January 2010

First practice in a while

Was a good practice last night. We waltzed through some oldies from the back catalogue which still sounded good and fresh. Then we pushed ourselves into new territory coming up with an excellent new song. It sounded genuinely powerful, serious even. Dub rock of sorts. We'll play it at the next gig. Ad also came up with a jaunty slash disco number that we'll massage into shape next practice. Exciting times for The Jetsonics.
